From June to August 1995, she was a visiting researcher at the Tokyo Institute of Technology on a National Science Foundation Fellowship. She joined the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech in September 1995 as an Assistant Professor and became a Full Professor in August 2005. During January - July 2001, she was a Swedish Research Council for Engineering Sciences Guest Professor at the Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden.
In 1997, Dr. Zhou received the National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award. She is also a recipient of the 2000 Meritor Teaching Excellence Award at Georgia Tech. In 2012, she was honored with Georgia Tech's inaugural Steven A. Denning Award for Global Engagement. Also in 2012, Dr. Zhou was elevated to IEEE Fellow status "for contributions to the analysis of nonlinear signals and systems."
